maintenance

Safety at work is an essential element in all industries, from manufacturing facilities to research laboratories and construction sites. Preventing accidents and professional risks is a priority for employers and employees alike. Gas detectors and personal protective equipment (PPE) are highly effective devices to warn from these risks and guarantee optimum safety.

For obvious reasons of staff safety, the control, periodic inspection and maintenance of this protective equipment are highly important. With a team of qualified technicians recognised by our partner manufacturers, GazDetect offers maintenance services and periodic checks on site or in the workshop at our maintenance centre near Paris.

Maintenance of gas detectors

Gas detectors play a vital role in monitoring work environments for the presence of hazardous gases. Whether they are toxic, flammable or asphyxiating gases, they help alert workers to danger, enabling safety measures to be taken quickly. However, these devices are only useful if they are working properly. Regular maintenance of gas detectors is essential to ensure their accuracy. Frequent calibration, visual inspection and bump testing are all procedures that need to be carried out regularly to ensure the reliability of gas detectors.

The first step in maintenance is a visual inspection of the gas detector. Check the general condition of the unit, the integrity of the casing, the cleanliness of the display and components, and the absence of any signs of damage or excessive wear.

Periodic calibration is also necessary. Gas detectors need to be calibrated regularly to ensure their precision. The frequency of calibration depends on the type of gas being monitored and the manufacturer's recommendations. Appropriate calibration gases must be used to ensure that the instrument reacts correctly to target gas levels. This includes zero setting (cell configuration) and sensitivity adjustment.
After each control, GazDetect provides a dated calibration certificate with the date of the next planned calibration.

Portable gas detectors must also undergo regular function tests. These tests involve exposing the detector to a calibrated gas source to check that it reacts correctly. This can be done using specific gas test kits.

Category 3 PPE care and maintenance

Class 3 (or category 3) PPE refers to personal protective equipment that protects against serious or fatal risks. Periodic inspection and maintenance of this type of protection is essential and mandatory in most industrialised countries. They include respiratory protective equipment, chemical protective clothing and fall protection.

Proper maintenance of such equipment is crucial to ensure that it remains effective and operational. This can include replacing faulty parts, regular cleaning and checking for correct fit to ensure that PPE offers maximum protection. A rigorous check should be carried out before each use. Concerning the annual inspection of equipment, this must be carried out in accordance with the relevant standards for this type of equipment, and is an obligation.

GazDetect Maintenance Center

GazDetect has an approved maintenance centre in Vert-Saint-Denis (Seine-et-Marne), enabling us to carry out technical and periodic inspections of your gas detection devices and category 3 PPE. Our laboratory has all the equipment needed for cleaning and checking respiratory and fall protection equipment. We have washing machines for desinfecting and disinfecting masks and harnesses, drying cabinets and breathing air compressors for analysing air quality, test benches and a bagging machine for packing clean, tested masks.

In addition to our approved maintenance centre, and thanks to a team of trained and qualified technicians, we offer on-site calibration and maintenance services for gas detectors (portable or fixed) and class 3 PPE (respiratory protection masks, powered air purifying devices, personal protective equipment, fall protection equipment, etc.). Our after-sales service is recognised for its technical expertise and fast response times.

These services can be covered by an annual maintenance contract with tacit renewal, and the frequency of visits can be assessed according to the exposure of the sensors.

GazDetect's intranet network

My GazDetect - GazDetect's intranet - is a simple, innovative application, entirely free and available from any computer, tablet or smartphone (IOS or Android) for managing and monitoring the periodic checks and maintenance of your gas detectors and your class 3 PPE.

Once the equipment is listed on our intranet, it can be "managed" by anyone authorised to access our secure network via our My GazDetect application.

After logging in with your password, you can access your personalised space where you can:

  • Configure your personal space to modify or add return notification emails for your appliances
  • Program return alerts to send your gas detectors before the deadline, or request on-site service (maintenance of your fixed installations)
  • Manage your fleet of detectors: assign, sort and classify your appliances and check any delays instantly
  • View or print out your gas detector calibration certificates (current and all previous ones)

The simple, user-friendly interface uses a system of colours (green: device checked, orange: verification recommended/certificate soon to expire and red: certificate expired) to show at a glance which devices need to be inspected.

Specific fields are available for assigning equipment to a person or a sector. This enhances security, because any data extracted can be linked to a sector or a user.
