Open path gas detectors

Open path gas detectors complete fixed point gas detectors and offer numerous significant technical advantages, such as larger monitoring zones with a higher probability of detecting gas leaks and rapid response times. They consist of a transmitter and receiver which the most powerful can go up to 200 meters apart. They can be found in many industrial applications, including offshore platforms, petrochemical sites, gas pipelines, and large-scale storage areas.

Open path gas detector suitable for every application
  1. Capable of replacing many point gas detectors, the SafEye Quasar 900 open path infrared gas detector is an innovative and relevant solution for the detection of flammable hydrocarbons in industry. It consists of a Xenon flash infrared emitter and an infrared receiver that can be split up to 200 meters away.

    • Open path for combustible hydrocarbon types C1 to C8 (methane, ethylene, propane, alkanes, alkenes, naphthenes, benzenes) detection
    • Detection range from 7 to 200 meters in 4 different models (same detector, various sources)
    • Detection in the harshest weather conditions thanks to heated optics
    • 4-20mA, RS485 Modbus and HART outputs and status LED
    • ATEX, IECEx, CSA, FM, UL, SIL2 (IEC61508) approval
  2. The Searchline® Excel detector is a linear gas detection barrier consisting of an infrared transmitter and a receiver that can be located up to 200 meters away. It is particularly suitable for methane, pentane, ethane, butane, propane, ethanol, ethylene, methanol, and propylene detection in petrochemicals and large-scale storage areas.

    • Highly accurate detection of hydrocarbons over distances of up to 200 meters
    • Fast response time with a T90 fewer than 3 seconds
    • Linear 4-20 mA and Modbus RS485 multidrop output
    • Simple installation and commissioning, one system replaces multiple point devices
    • Safety approvals: ATEX, IECEx, UL, CSA, FM, and GOST

  3. The GD1 H2S laser detection barrier, which can replace many point gas detectors, is an innovative and relevant solution for detecting hydrogen sulfide over long distances. Optical and mechanical designs ensure fast response, long shelf life, excellent stability, and low maintenance and operating costs.

    • Long-range linear H2S detection barrier (from 5 to 75 meters) with near-instantaneous response tim
    • Detection in the harshest weather conditions thanks to heated optics (transmitter and receiver)
    • Lifetime factory calibration, no on-site recalibration required
    • ATEX certified and compatible with SIL2 systems
    • Linear 4-20 mA output and HART protocol as standard

Able to replace many fixed gas detectors, open path gas detectors are an innovative and relevant solution, mainly regarding hydrocarbons detection over long distances. Their optical and mechanical design ensures rapid response, long life, excellent stability, and low maintenance and operating costs. Other models are available for hydrogen sulfide detection, which are widely used in petrochemicals, sanitation and water or ammonia treatment, the ideal solution for large-scale storage and ammonia unloading areas.
