The Honeywell Midas® EX is a single-point explosion-proof extractive gas detector (ATEX/IECEx) designed for the continuous monitoring of toxic, flammable, corrosive, pyrophoric, oxidizing, or asphyxiant gases. Suitable for explosive atmospheres, it provides reliable protection in high-risk industrial environments. Technology and Connectivity
The Honeywell Midas® EX incorporates the latest technologies to ensure reliable communication and simplified installation. Using Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, both power supply and data transmission are carried through a single RJ45 cable, reducing wiring complexity and facilitating commissioning. Fully Modbus/TCP compatible, it integrates easily with existing monitoring systems and enables real-time alarm and measurement control. Its configurable outputs, including three relays (Alarm 1, Alarm 2, and Fault) and a 0–21 mA analog signal, ensure smooth communication with control and safety devices. Additionally, its Ethernet PC/PDA interface allows easy and fast access to configuration, diagnostics, and remote maintenance.
Sampling System
The Honeywell Midas® EX features a high-performance sampling system that ensures fast and reliable gas analysis. Its long-life internal pump, capable of continuous operation for more than two years, can draw gas samples from distances of up to 30 meters using FEP or polypropylene (PP) tubing. The sampling flow rate of 500 cc/min enables quick detection, while the gas transport time (2–30 seconds depending on tubing length) ensures optimal system responsiveness in all installation configurations.
Operating Conditions
The Honeywell Midas® EX operates within a wide temperature range from –20 °C to +60 °C, making it suitable for various industrial environments. In ATEX zones, the recommended operating temperature is between 0 °C and +40 °C to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety requirements. The device withstands a maximum pressure of 75.8 kPa and features an Ex db IIC T6 Gb (IECEx/KCs) protection rating, confirming its explosion-proof design and reliability for use in explosive atmospheres.
Certifications and Compliance
The Midas® EX meets the highest safety and reliability standards. It is ATEX, IECEx, and KCs certified, ensuring safe operation in explosive atmospheres. Compliant with EN 61000-6-4 and EN 50270, it guarantees excellent electromagnetic compatibility and stable operation even in sensitive industrial environments. The device comes with a one-year warranty for the transmitter, one to two years for the sensor cartridges, and a minimum two-year lifespan for the pump, demonstrating the robustness and quality of its design.
